This is a little snippet of a televised program that CBC broadcasted for Father's Day with our adorable children and their Daddys :)
This clip demonstrates a typical circle time with the children exploring a
well known text. This is a book that one of the children bought to school to
share with their friends. We built on the children's ideas about the book
and focused on their cultural capital for how they could relate to the text.
We then explored the early signs of literacy by taking a picture walk
through the book, talked about directionality of the text and followed the
text with our eyes. For our more advanced children we looked for sight words
and familiar words. We love stories!
This is an example of our language class that focused on building the
children's phonetic awareness as well as practicing their phonics and
handwriting skills.
